Tabs

I will be posting links to the tab site: www.ultimate-guitar.com. Many of the tabs on this and other sites have errors because they are not done by professional guitarists. I will post links to my tabs and those by other people that I have checked and which are correct. Through the tabs listed here you can get a good idea of some of the songs that I teach my rock students. Some of the tabs here are written in and must be opened in the PowerTab program which is freeware and can be downloaded here: http://www.harmony-central.com/Software/Windows/powertab.html

Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day: There are many guitar tracks on the recorded version of the song but all of the important parts can be played on two guitars and it is also possible to play it on one guitar if a few things are removed. One problem when playing the song on one guitar is that one of the guitars is using a capo at the first fret while the other guitars are not. The solution to this is to play the chords of this guitar part one fret higher than written using bar chords. This can also be done if you are playing with two guitars and do not have a capo. The lyrics are written in the tab so there is not a separate lyric link. There is also a power tab version of the same tab which some people may find more clear in denoting where each guitar part comes in. Power Tab Version of Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

Hells Bells - ACDC (Lyrics): There are a few minor errors in the solos in this tab but it is otherwise quite good. Several two note combinations in the solo have to be broken apart, ie. played as arpeggios. You need to have the Power Tab program downloaded on your computer for this tab.

Holiday - Green Day (Lyrics): Fairly accurate tab with only a few minor errors. Play an F power chord instead of the F-minor bar chord in the chorus. The 9 on the 2nd string of bar 31 in the solo should be removed (a 6 is played here but there are already enough 6's in the bar so the 9 does not need to be replaced by a 6). The high F power chord at the end of the song is played at the 13th fret of the 6th string (not the 8th fret of the 5th string) and is then slid down to the low F power chord on the 1st fret of the 6th string. You need to have the Power Tab program downloaded on your computer for this tab.

Johnny B Goode - Chuck Berry (Lyrics): I did this tab.

Love Me Tender - Elvis Presley (Lyrics): A very well done tab by someone using the moniker, Slowhand. Note that in the original recording the band is tuned slightly lower than standard tuning. There is no problem with playing the song in standard tuning and this is what most guitarists would do. However, if you want to play along with the recording you will have to tune to about A 430 instead of the standard A 440 or roughly half way between A and Ab. The final time the chorus is played there are a couple of changes that are not notated in the tab. The alternating bass - arpeggio pattern changes to solely an arpeggio pattern (using the same chords) that is played slower to fill in the time that the bass note previously occupied. On beat 2 of bar 14 of the final chorus a high D7 chord is played instead of the C bass note with the following fingering: 3rd string - 5th fret, 2nd string - 7th fret and 1st string - 5th fret. You need to have the Power Tab program downloaded on your computer for this tab.

Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple (Lyrics): The opening riff to this song is one of the first things many people learn on the guitar. This tab has the whole song including the solo. This is not my tab and the author is not listed but it is excellent. I have checked it with the recording and it is better than many professionally published tabs. You need to have the Power Tab program downloaded on your computer for this tab.

Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2: This is what I call a good performance tab and is from someone named Dan. There may be some other tabs that recreate every little thing on the recording that you may or may not hear if you have a very good sound system but this tab has the essentials of the song which you need to perform it live. U2 like many other bands does a lot of studio tricks with multi-tracking and other effects to make what is a fairly simple song sound more complex. However, they can not recreate this sound live unless they are using extra musicians and a large number of recorded effects. For example, most of this song has two guitars playing at the same time (in addition to some less prominent guitar tracks used to make the sound fuller) but U2 only has one guitarist. Very few people will notice if either U2 or you do not play a few of the things that are fairly difficult to hear on the recording itself. This tab also contains the lyrics.

Takin Care of Business - Bachman Turner Overdrive (Lyrics): I did this tab.

Wild Thing - Troggs (Lyrics): I did this tab.
